I know, I know, starting off boring with this one. BUT - EV's are a big question mark in the current state of the world - so I figured as someone who is a gas burning junkie, it is best suited for me to start with my daily driver.
I know what you're thinking, "this guy claims to be a car guy, but drives an EV for a daily" and to be honest with you, you're right. Total hypocrite. I did do it for a financial reason in order to purchase another Porsche in the near future - so hopefully that settles down the haters.
Now, let's dive into the car. Of course, it looks like an egg.. but to be honest, it is one pretty egg. The body lines and singleframe grille design of the E-tron really lends itself to a very modern but classy design. I of course as I can leave nothing stock, did change the OEM 20inch horrible wheels out for a set of 22 inch ABT AeroDisk style wheels, which lend themselves to the cars overall design very well.

Now, I do have a 68 mile commute daily, so for me, this car is perfect. That said, the range is pretty lack luster at a staggering 218 miles on a full charge, assuming you refuse to use the air conditioning for any length of time. On a hyper mile trip, I was able to net out about 225 miles on a full charge, even with these super heavy 22 inch wheels. It does the job for MY specific purposes - I also charge at work for free, which is an awesome plus.
If charging at home, it costs me about $3.17 cents on average, which is of course, much cheaper than a gas vehicle, saving me a few hundred a month on my fuel costs. (I make up for it in other places with my fossil fuel gems) Effecient driving is the key to success in EV ownership, and something you have to commit to unless you regularly have available charging stations like a Tesla. In my state, we only have one fast charger for Audi EVs, the electrify america charger. Which is far off the beaten path for me, and super expensive to use... so we won't be doing that.
Moving on to the car itself, did I mention it's real pretty for one of those squatting dog style SUV's? Due to the air suspension, you are able to achieve car like ride height at the push of a button, but a super comfortable ride on a long drive. The interior? Spectacular. Modern Audi has hit it out of the park with interior tech, usability, and quality materials. The Valcona Leather is impressive to say the least - firm, yet supple in the places it needs to be. They are of course cooled & heated which is pleasant when you may not want to use the HVAC in fear of using range.
Audis tech is without a doubt a game changer in the automotive industry - it is extremely complex in the simplist way possible, what I mean by this is the fact is is robust, fast, and incredibly full of features. BUT it can be figured out in about 15 minutes with no user manual - you can use any feature when moving without having to pull off and put on reading glasses. I can't say this about Mercedes OR BMW in the similar vehicles of the class.
All in all, I give the 2021 E-tron Sportback a cool 85/100 on the daily driver side of things - the space in the vehicle is more than adequate with two trunks (albeit the frunk is v small) flat folding rear seats, a comfortable ride, and great tech.
It does lack in the "fun" category, but that isn't why you would buy this car!
As a note of mention, this car new was right around $90,xxx - you can buy one today with 30-40k miles on it in the mid 30's, leaving plenty of room in the budget for a fun car along the way!
